LIFE IN NEPAL in pictures

The electrical system in Kathmandu. In some places bamboo poles held the wires off the road, and when a high load went along the street they had a man on top with a stick to lift the wires out of the way.

This is the home of the living goddess. She lives here until she reaches adolescence then they chuck her out and get a new one.

Women waiting at the water pump in Kathmandu.

Peanut vendor. These are everywhere. If not peanuts then fruit or food or bangles.

Man carrying a load. Didn't see many loads carried on poles like this. More often they were in baskets on their back with a strap which went across the forehead.

Boy selling fairy floss in the square

Shops like this are everywhere. Nearly every second house has one, two or three little shops down stairs.

Men playing a popular game in Nepal. This game is played outside many shops. Sometimes large crowds are gathered. It is like a version of pool but played with flat chips and no pool sticks. The chips are flicked instead.

Boats at the lake in Pokhara.

Me playing soccer in the park with some of the locals.

Inside the National Inventive school. Notice the cramped classrooms, and no lighting except the windows.

A building under construction. Bamboo is used to shore up the floor above until complete. When their is concrete to be done about fifty people appear. It is mixed down below and passed up in dishes hand over hand along a line of people.

Boys playing table tennis on the concrete table in the park. How do you like the net? They are more durable then ours.

Women washing clothes in a pool beside the lake at Pokhara.

This was the old woman who was carrying a load up te hill behind us when we climbed the steps to the Peace Pagoda at Pokhara. We had driven most of the way. When we began up the steps she gained on us at first.

Met this woman on the walk out from the monastery and couldn't resist a photo of her and her husband, who is in the next photo.

Once we showed them their photo in the camera they were all laughs and smiles and keen to have their picture taken. They were very friendly.

This fellow was milking a cow when we came along and happily posed for a few shots.

A man making baskets. These baskets are used everywhere for carrying all types of loads. His family came out of the house and invited us in. The daughter asked me if I liked her boyfriend. I wasn't sure what I was being offered. Seems she wanted me to hire him as a guide.

Some women loading up their baskets with heavy rocks. They will then carry them to where they are needed. The rocks are a fair size and it is quite a heavy load.

These women were travelling along the road with a heavy load of wood. They had already travelled some distance......and seemed to have some distance to go.

These small tractors....or large lawn mowers are everywhere with all types of trailers attached behind them.

This teenage girl was washing her hair at the village pump. There were a couple of boys watching. When they realized I was taking a photograph they teased her. But she laughed at it.

This is a picture of people riding on top of a bus. This is a common sight in the country but not allowed in the city.

Ok this is a picture taken by me on top of the bus. It shows Tensin, a monk from the monastery who was guiding us into town. The edge of Amanda and I can be seen.
