THE JUNGLE.

Very early the next morning we went on a canoe trip down the river. It was very foggy and very quiet. We could only see a few birds, ducks, a kingfisher and fairy martins. Because it was so foggy and cold we didn't see any crocodiles either. The only thing we could hear was Tess and Maya talking......the whole trip.

The canoes dropped us off and after a talk about what to do if a rhino, a bear or a tiger chased you we went on a walking safari through the jungle and then the elephant grass. The girls had stopped their chatter but still we saw very little wildlife. Tom Orr had been here a few days ago and had seen rhinos. We saw deer shadows,
one monkey, a peacock, a woodpecker, a bee swarm, a few bugs and some small birds. At one point we were stopped in the jungle listening for the sounds which give away where the rhinos are when of course Maya's mobile phone started to ring. Still it was a pleasant walk. We did however get back late and only caught the end of the elephants being washed in the river in front of the motel. We caught the end from across the river.

In the afternoon we went for an elephant safari. Riding on the back of an elephant we bustled off through the jungle. We were on one that we had seen playing up this morning so Tess in particular was very nervous. The elephant safari was great. We saw lots of deer, and up close, two rhinos, a crocodile and again a monkey and a peacock. Although they were rough to ride it was a good trip through the jungle and down to the river and back.

There are a lot of police around, armed and with riot gear. This is due to the Nepali Prime Minister visiting the town this afternoon. We have been on all our treks with another couple staying at the motel. He is from Peru and she is from Russia. He works collecting plants for medicines in the Amazon.
